CULTIVATING COMMUNITY

Affordable Housing and Repairs

TRANSFORMING NEIGHBORHOODS AND LIVES

Stability creates opportunity for positive change—after all, a seed needs to be planted in order to grow. That’s why we focus on providing solid, dependable, and lasting housing solutions to our communities, so families and individuals have a chance to thrive.

  • Since 1992, project:HOMES has developed, designed, and constructed hundreds of affordable single-family homes. Every home is built with superior finishes, historic detail, and lasting value, designed to fit the historic character of the neighborhoods we serve. project:HOMES is committed to building our homes to the highest quality and energy efficiency standards to provide the greatest benefit to our homebuyers.

  • Our volunteer program builds and installs no-cost wheelchair ramps for residents with mobility issues, in addition to handling smaller-scale accessibility projects like installing shower handles and porch railings. These improvements help older adults and disabled individuals regain their independence and stay in their homes, ensuring that every Central Virginia resident has a safe and comfortable place to live.

  • Project:HOMES recognizes that one of the most important aspects of preserving affordable housing is helping homeowners with modest incomes stay in their homes. These services provide no-cost repairs that increase the safety and longevity of our clients' homes, including roof, structural, and floor repairs as well as the repair and replacement of HVAC units, plumbing, and electrical systems.

  • This program gives manufactured home residents access to the same services as those in traditional types of housing, providing critical no-cost repairs to heating, electrical, plumbing, water heaters, window replacements, faulty roofs, and hazardous flooring. Bilingual staff members help to bridge language barriers and connect more deeply with residents in these communities.

The service area for this program is Chesterfield County and City of Richmond.

  • project:HOMES owns four older adult communities that provide safe, affordable, and comfortable housing designed specifically for independence, connection, and long-term stability. There are 301 units across four communities: Parham I, Parham II, William Byrd, and Omni. These communities are managed by Epoch Properties, and more information can be obtained by calling Matt DeWorker at 804-897-9161.

In 2020, project:HOMES purchased Bermuda Estates Manufactured Housing Community in Chesterfield County with the aim of improving park infrastructure and creating more opportunities for residents. Since then, the community has seen meaningful improvements, from new unit replacements to a vibrant community center, playground, and monthly resident programs that foster learning and connection.

  • This program is a statewide resource for income-eligible families to address the lead-based paint hazards in their home. It is a grant program that operates with no charge to participating homeowners, tenants, and landlords. All eligible homes will receive a full inspection and risk assessment. When they told me I was getting a new roof, new doors, and a new heating and cooling system, I was shocked. I started crying. All these repairs have made a tremendous difference. It’s like I was on an extreme home makeover program.
